The Palma Lockdown Diary | Week 5

This 5th week of COVID-19 lockdown was quite uneventful! It is starting to feel like living the same day over and over again! I totally spent too much time on my phone AGAIN this week, so trying to cut down on screen time (yeah I know, I said that before, but it’s really hard, especially when you work in social media!)

Food

Here are all the food we’ve made in the past weeks, in case you need recipe ideas! Big shout out to my flatmate Jess for cooking for all of us!

  • Banana Bread

Ingredients: – 3 ripe bananas, mashed – 1 cup white sugar – 1 egg – 1/4 cup melted butter – 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour – 1 teaspoon baking soda – 1 teaspoon salt Preheat the oven to 165°C. Combine bananas, sugar, egg, and butter together in a bowl. Mix the flour and baking soda together in a separate bowl; stir into the banana mixture until the batter is just mixed. Stir the salt into batter. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. You can add banana pieces on top of the batter to decorate the bread. Bake in the preheated oven until a knife inserted in the center of the bread comes out clean, about 1 hour.

PIN IT FOR LATER!

  • Caramelised onions and goat cheese quiche

  • Homemade burgers and sweet potato fries with truffle mayonnaise

We had been craving burgers since the beginning of the lockdown, so we finally decided to make our own! Well it’s not that easy, you have to cook everything at once and be fast, but it was worth it in the end! Mercadona now has vegan burgers, and it really felt like eating a meat burger (texture-wise). In the burgers we put: cheese, pickles, beetroot, tomatoes, a fried egg and bacon (for the non-vegetarians), plus ketchup and mustard.

We decided to make sweet potato fries as they are our favourites, and we made the most delicious truffle mayonnaise. So simple! We found this truffle paste at Mercadona (2€50 for 80gr, next to the spices) and we mixed a bit of the paste with normal mayonnaise, and it was like eating fries at Badal Corner! Yum!

We still have a lot in the jar, so expect more truffle recipe in next week’s blog post!

  • Missing Brunch at my favourite cafés

I’m craving a good brunch from Cafè Riutort or La Finca, and pancakes from The Workshop Café (they actually did a pancake delivery on Saturday, and they also deliver banana bread, check it out here). I’ve made a list of my favourite cafés and brunch places in Palma de Mallorca to visit after the lockdown, find it here and tell me what are tour favourites ones!

Podcasts

I’ve started to listen to podcasts again, in my ‘normal life’ I listen to them while I walk by the sea every evening, so it had been a while without turning one on! My favourites are (sorry all in French): Bliss stories (pregnancy and birth stories); In Power (entrepreneurs interviews) and Build Yourself (tips for entrepreneurs and online businesses).

An amazing podcast in English I can recommend for female entrepreneurs is Sheree Murray’s one: The Side Hustle Movement.

Quarantine view

It’s really hard to stare at the same buildings everyday, over and over, and always go to the same shop once a week… But it taught me to really appreciate what I have in front of me. I love the pink and orange colours of the neighbour’s buildings, it is quite a nice view we have from our balcony!

It’s so lovely to see how the kids are getting more and more creative everyday to stay in contact, they are now sending each others letters and presents through the bag and strings they set up between 3 flats.

Home workout

Here’s a workout video we made with my flatmates (one used to be a personal trainer so she’s planning our morning workouts (so lucky I know). We do it every morning at 7.30am Monday to Friday. It’s the best way to start the days and really help me keeping sane.

Missing the sea

This week I’ve really been missing my walks and the sea… maybe because I was hoping we would be allowed for walks outside our house from the 26th, but they have just announced that only kids will be allowed on the streets for fresh air and a bit of exercise… But well, I’ve been looking at photos from hikes and beach days, and have been tanning on our balcony, at least it’s something!

Palma Insta Tour

This weekend was really productive as I released the landing page for Palma Insta Tour on my website! You can check it out here:

Don’t forget that you can buy a voucher now to do the tour at a later date! I really can’t wait to show you around the city again, and take some photos!

Big shout out to Jess for helping me with copy writing and to my web designer, Octave.

I hope you all had a good-enough week! Here in Palma de Mallorca the lockdown has been extended until May 9th now.

Stay safe everyone!

Adèle xx
